The U.S. General Services Administration plans to build a new facility for the National Archives and Records Administration's (NARA) National Personnel Records Center on 23.5 acres it recently bought at 1829 Dunn Road.

The new 520,000-square-foot facility will replace the existing 1.5 million-square-foot facility at 9700 Page Ave. in Overland that houses the National Personnel Records Center.

The majority of NARA operations will relocate from the Federal Records Center at Page Ave. to the new facility at Dunn Road. Functions from NARA's downtown facility on Winnebago Street and its Dielman Avenue annex will also relocate to the new facility.

When complete, the new building will include 280,000 square feet of storage and 240,000 square feet of office space, GSA officials said in a release Wednesday.

Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond, R-Mo., said in a statement, "This new facility will ensure that some 600 highly skilled jobs in the National Personnel Records Center remain in St. Louis."

GSA is now in the process of selecting a developer for the construction of a build-to-suit lease for the government, according to a release.
