The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) said Wednesday that it approved Enhanced Enterprise Zone Program designations for north St. Louis County and central St. Louis County.

DED Director Greg Steinhoff said in a statement, "This designation will make North and Central St. Louis County eligible for state assistance to attract and retain jobs. I know community leaders will take advantage of this and work diligently with private sector businesses looking to expand or relocate in an area with a tremendous workforce."

The Enhanced Enterprise Zone program was implemented in 2004. Enhanced Enterprise Zones are specified geographic areas designated by local governments and certified by the DED. Zone designation is based on certain demographic criteria, the potential to create sustainable jobs in a targeted industry and a demonstrated impact on local cluster development.
